AP Biology
AP Biology is a new course to the Queen Creek High School curriculum. It is a class geared towards Juniors and Seniors who have already passed Biology and Chemistry who also have either passed Algebra II or are currently enrolled in it. This course meets university entrance requirements for lab science credit. In addition, it is a weighted, honors level course.
The AP Biology course is designed to be the equivalent of a two-semester college introductory biology course usually
taken by biology majors during their first year. AP Biology includes topics that are regularly covered in a college
biology course for majors. This course will cover the major themes of biology (Molecules and Cells, Heredity and
Evolution, Organisms and Populations). This is a lab intensive course, focusing on the conceptual knowledge
concerning biology. Students will be required to write extensive lab reports, incorporating not only factual
knowledge, but deep rooted understanding of the core pillars of biology. Statistical analysis of data will also be
required. Class lectures will focus on the concepts and understanding the inner workings of biology. This is a college
class; therefore the expectations on work quality, timeliness, behavior and testing will be at the college level. Students
will also be expected to take the AP Biology Exam in May.
